What Other Middle School Students Have Done

Community Advocacy

• A student concerned about how fast people were driving in his neighborhood, worked for the neighborhood association to get a speed bump installed in the neighborhood.

  Environment

• A group of students who were concerned about the impact of invasive plants on the urban forests were able to get out and help pull ivy and blackberries, providing more livable habitats for the trees and other native plants and animals.

  Technology

• Skilled in web design, a Wy'East student worked with Clark County to help design a web page which provides information to teens.
  

Animals

• Interested in animals and concerned about those that were abandoned, an eighth grader raised funds for the Humane Society.


• Jackson L. volunteered as a Zoo Teen at the Zoo. He used his experience to help design a new exhibit for a Sumatran tiger.

  Education

• Povananh K helped out in a first-grade class at an elementary school. She learned a lot about what it's like to be a teacher as she provided one-on-one tutoring.
• Students on the Library's Youth Advisory Board regularly plan fun activities for teens.

  Arts

• After visiting children who had long-term illnesses, a girl provided each child with a personalized drawing. She asked the children what they most enjoyed doing, she took pictures of these children and them attached their photographed faces to a drawing she made of them doing the activities they enjoy!



• A student who enjoyed writing poetry sponsored a poetry night at school.
