III. Essential Question
The Essential Question for this Project is:
How do we as young community members define our local history?
Below are content specific guiding questions:
Social Studies:
- In what ways do the lives our local Lummi Indians and family stories of local settlers parallel the events you have studied in your US History course?
- In what ways do the stories from the interviews change your perspective about our community and your understanding of the history of the United States?
English:
- How is writing someone’s biography different from simply transcribing an interview, or different from writing a fictional story?
- How do you write a personal history/family history from your interview while maintaining historical accuracy and void of personal bias?
Service:
- In what ways does the Oral History Project help you extend your classroom learning to create a new relationship between Windward High School and our local community?
